Born out of the need for better simulation software
Nullspace technology was born at an established defense contractor, IERUS Technologies, that specializes in electromagnetics phenomenology, analytical computing, and weapon systems engineering. For almost 20 years, IERUS has delivered on defense programs, including RF and infrared signature design for the Missile Defense Agency's target and countermeasure programs.
IERUS's CTO and cofounder, Dr. Daniel Faircloth, became increasingly frustrated with the limitations of legacy EM simulation tools. A world-recognized expert in computational electromagnetics himself, Dr. Faircloth wanted modern, more flexible and faster simulation software for his engineering teams — but those tools simply did not exist. So he and his engineering team did what engineers do best — they built something better.
Over the next decade, this novel EM tool was used during the design of real-world hardware deployed for a variety of military applications: antennas, radars, and RF systems delivered to defense programs.
In 2023, the technology was ready to be commercialized. Dr. Petrova came on board as Nullspace's CEO and cofounder, bringing with her 15+ years of experience commercializing CAD and CAE software products.
Today, Nullspace offers the most cutting-edge and novel EM simulation technologies to customers and academic institutions across the world, while continuing to uphold its values of being built “For Engineers, by Engineers.”

Why we are here
There's a reason almost no one builds what we build.
Simulating how electromagnetic fields behave — rigorously enough that an engineer can trust the results in order to design and build hardware that does not yet exist — is one of the hardest problems in computational physics.
The math is unforgiving, the problems are enormous, and getting it right takes years of work. Most companies never attempt it. The ones that do mostly built their tools decades ago and innovate by acquisition rather than developing the physics solvers internally.
This matters because the world is only getting more connected. Every satellite in orbit, every radar in our defense system, every ion trap in every quantum computer relies on engineers predicting how electric and magnetic fields will behave, long before that newly designed hardware gets built.
Simulation gives engineers that understanding as they are working on developing these novel technologies — and for decades these tools remained essentially the same, while engineering innovations of products leaped ahead.
The hardware today has changed completely. Satellite constellations now coordinate thousands of antennas, phased arrays have tens of thousands of elements, and quantum computing is becoming very real. The problems keep getting bigger, and most tools can't keep up.
Lately a wave of new tools promises to do all of this with AI, and that's genuinely exciting, but it doesn't change the fundamentals. Every one of those tools rests on the same thing underneath: a solver computing the physics. A surrogate model is only as good as the data it learned from, and that data has to come from a real physics solve in the first place.
An AI agent is only as good as the tool it's driving. So as AI reaches deeper into engineering, it doesn't make a rigorous solver less important, it makes it the thing everything else depends on. The better the solver underneath, the more AI can do on top of it.
That is the foundation we build.
Nullspace is one of the most advanced EM simulation solvers in the world, validated over 15+ years on real hardware delivered to defense programs before we ever sold it commercially. We started the company because the tool we needed didn't exist — so we built it, proved it, and came out of stealth in 2023 to put it in the hands of the engineers hitting the same walls we did.
